Comet has over sixty years of experience manufacturing high performance solutions for OEM and aftermarket applications with a wide variety of centrifugal industrial clutches, torque converters, belts, disc brakes and other components for industrial and commercial applications.
Certified Parts Corporation (CPC), based in Janesville, Wisconsin acquired Hoffco/Comet December 17, 2009. All manufacturing takes place in our 200,000+ sq. ft. plant in Edgerton, WI.
Ownership may have changed over the years, but Comet’s dedication to quality has not diminished.
Since 2009, Comet has grown its footprint in the global market to include worldwide distribution with partners in the UK, Canada, Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Taiwan, Turkey, Switzerland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Germany and Russia.
Along with the extensive manufacturing capabilities of OEM and aftermarket products, Comet’s other core competencies include the ability to offer customer solutions that require the use of 5-axis vertical mills, live tooling lathes
and MIG (robotic and hand) welding. Advance broaching capabilities allow us to produce all sizes and orientations of keyways and splines. This equipment, combined with our manufacturing expertise complement our standard 3 axis CNC machines. As quality Control is critical to our manufacturing process, we have established full quality lab with CMM and universal gauging to ensure accuracy making Comet a go-to vendor for difficult OEM parts.
Comet’s commitment to quality is our highest priority.
Centrifugal Clutches
Comet Industries has been manufacturing centrifugal clutches for snowmobiles, ATV’s/UTV’s, go-karts, golf carts, lawn & garden equipment, mini bikes, and industrial and finishing equipment for over 60 years. Designed and built for direct drive applications that require a full range of exceptional ability from engagement through the highest speeds available. They are available in standard sizes as well as custom applications built to an OEM’s requirements. Our experience and quality craftsmanship will provide you with an excellent, long-lasting product for your application.
Torque Converters (CVT’s)
Comet has been manufacturing torque converters for recreational vehicles for over 60 years. Our torque converters are designed and built to withstand the extreme rigors of rough applications. Whenever there is a need, want and use for a torque sensitive drive system device that is infinitely variable from engagement to the highest speeds attainable (within the pitch diameter range), our experience and quality craftsmanship will provide you with an excellent, long-lasting product for your application.
How does a Comet torque converter
work? The drive clutch is activated by the centrifugal force from the engine crankshaft. The moveable sheave of the clutch is forced in as the RM of the engine is increased. This contacts the drive belt. The drive belt will then be forced to a larger diameter within the clutch sheaves, thus pulling it to a smaller diameter within the driving unit sheaves. The moveable sheave of the driven unit is forced out, allowing the belt to seek its smaller, high speed ration diameter. As this happens, the speed from the engine transferred to the final drive is increased.
Belts
Comet’s high-performance belts are manufactured to enhance your machine’s overall performance, whether you are cruising along a trail on an UTV, racing a snowmobile, climbing rocky terrain on an ATV or finishing a concrete slab.
Ranging from low horsepower machinery to high-output industrial equipment, Comet’s wide variety of belts covers all applications that use belts to transmit power in the industrial, recreational, and construction industries.
Comet Band Brakes and Drums
Comets band brakes are compact, rugged, and can generate powerful braking capability with light input force. Our band brakes can be used as a primary, to slow the vehicle (a dynamic brake) or secondary to prevent rotation (a static or “holding” brake). The operation is simple when the band tightens concentrically around a cylindrical piece of equipment. It either prevents rotating or to slows the vehicle it is on.
Our brake components are made of high quality materials made in the USA and proudly manufactured in Edgerton, Wisconsin.
Common applications are winch drums (holding brake), go-karts, utility equipment, UTV/ATV, mini-bikes and
general lawn and garden products. The amount of stopping force varies with the drum diameter. In general, a larger diameter drum has more surface area for increased stopping or holding force. Some caution should be used in applications based on exposure to extremely wet conditions which may reduce braking performance. See the common bands sizes and drums below.
Custom hubs are available based on special request.
Service Tools
Since Comet’s founding in 1949, we have seen the need to design custom specialty tools from the ground up. By doing this, we can help our customers deliver exceptional service as these tools are an exact fit to our clutches. The same high-quality criteria used to produce our clutches is used for our tools, ensuring safe removal and prevention of damage to both the Comet clutch and the engine/motor.
